Brady Smith (28-11)

Michael Holland (51 wins)

Fun Fact
South completed back to back winning seasons last year for the first time since 2013 and 2014.

Where They Open
12/15: TCNJ Pride @ Middletown South

Circle The Date
1/30: @ Holmdel  -  The Hornets have won the last three bouts against the Eagles, two by criteria, and the third by two points.

The numbers are up, WAY up, as Middletown South begins to reap the benefits from their undefeated division champion middle school team with a large and promising freshmen class.

The lower half of the lineup is loaded with young talent from the promising freshmen class looking to make an immediate impact in the lineup. Returning starters Michael Holland (23-7 / 3rd D17), Owen Fitzgerald (18-14), Stephen McGrouther (13-17), and Devon Slavin (5-18) give head coach Anton Atterbury a nice, experienced group in which to break in several of the newcomers into the lineup around. As the newcomers progress, this should be a very solid lower half for the Eagles.

The bulk of the hit South took to graduation occurred in the upperweights, so the Eagles will be breaking in a lot of new starters. Brady Smith (28-11 / 2nd D17) will be the anchor of the group, and is entering his 3rd season as a starter in the Eagles uppers. James Santiago, Kyler Lebetz, and Jordan Sherman all saw extensive action last season, and will be looking to excel in full time roles, while helping provide leadership for some of the new faces breaking into the lineup.

The Eagles will be another interesting team to watch. This will be a young team that has had success at the intermediate level and is looking to keep that going into the high school program. They're definitely a program to keep an eye on for the future, but if the newcomers develop quickly, they are capable of making some noise this season, as well.
