2021 Middletown South Wrestling

The Eagles are loaded. On paper, this is easily the deepest and talented a lineup as South has put out since probably the mid 90's. And the scary thing is, there's only a handful of seniors in the lineup.

Starting down low, Jack Zaleski is coming off a monster freshman season in which he racked up 42 wins, and won the D19 & R5 Titles before moving on to Atlantic City, where he took 5th in the state at 106. There's a strong group of experienced juniors here including Ryan Madden, Travis Tuminelli, Kaden King, and Robert Generelli. Madden was 10-1 last year seeing time at 106/113, while King recorded 19 wins. Tuminelli, a 29-bout winner as a freshman, missed most of last season to injury. Generelli also returns from injury after missing out on his entire sophomore year. He was a D19 runner-up, and 26-match winner in 2019. There's some talented frosh looking to jump into the mix here too, including Zach Veniskey and Alec Holland.

There's plenty of talent returning in the middle, as well. David Hussey is also coming off a standout rookie campaign. The sophomore recorded 29 wins in 2020, and was the D19 Champ at 120, and advanced to AC after finish 4th at Regions. Senior, Owen Fitzgerald was also a 29-match winner and D19 Champ for the Eagles last season. Nick Holland, a junior, won 22 bouts and was a 3rd place finisher in the District Tournament.

Up top, senior Sean Fitzpatrick and junior Jack Willi are returning starters who both finished 3rd at Districts last season. They're joined by a pair of junior transfers in Matt Cody and Dante Miranda. Cody won 22 matches and was a D22 runner-up for RBC last season, while Miranda was a 2-year starter while wrestling for St John Vianney. They're also joined by a pair of returning junior lettermen, Jason Reeves and Aidan Caruso, giving the Eagles a very strong upperweight group with depth.

South has been on the rise the last few seasons. The numbers are high, with over 50 kids in the program, many of them from a strong feeder system. The potential is here for the Eagles to have a very big year, both as a team, and in the individual postseason. A-North should be a great battle this year, and South gets a good jump right into things as they host crosstown rival Middletown North on opening night, and visit Long Branch two days later. Keep an eye on the Eagles, folks.
